Hi!

I'm Octavia Jones.

Welcome! I'm so glad you're here. As a kid I used to attend physical therapy appointments with my Great-grandmother and I never liked to see people in pain.  With over 10 years of working as physical therapy technician all over Jacksonville at different hospitals and rehabilitation centers and after studying both physical therapy and chiropractic medicine, I've developed a deeper passion to holistic health and natural healing.  I've became a yoga teacher and recently became a Holy Fire Reiki Master. I love to combine all that I've learned and incorporate into customized therapeutic massages to relieve pain, swelling, and stress.  It gives me the upmost joy to assist people in preventing surgeries, recover from injuries quicker, or revive those who are burnt out from overuse in occupation or athletic lifestyles.

I look forward to helping you live pain-free.

"I got my first massage from Tavia over 3 years ago.  I refuse to go to anyone else!  She capitalizes on the use of her intuition to know what muscle areas she needs to focus on so you can get instant relief.  I can't say enough about her hands and how relaxed she makes you feel after your massage.  I will continue to recommend all my friends, family and even strangers to her.  If you are ready to experience amazing relief from stress and tension, please don't hesitate to see her!  You won't regret it!"

In addition to my massage therapy practice, I also enjoy learning about our magnificent bodies.  I'm currently studying advanced QiGong Theory, reflexology, myospinal therapy, meridian stretching, and activating chakras for healing.  My hobbies consist of active fun, yoga, or playing with my 3 children in video games or basketball.  I also enjoy reading, kettlebell resistance training and boxing.

FAQs

Here are some of the common questions asked by clients.  If you have any additional questions or concerns, please feel free to email me support@duvaltherapeuticmassage.com

What is therapeutic massage?

Therapeutic Massage

Therapeutic massage is a holistic practice of working with soft tissues of the body (skin, fascia, and muscle) to improve range of motion, daily living, and balance throughout the body.

Is massage covered by insurance/Do you accept insurance?

Insurance/HSA

In some cases, massage may be covered by insurance, but often is not.  Checking with your insurance provider will help you out to know whether your plan covers massage, as all plans vary.  Most HSA or health savings cards work for massage and are accepted.  We are happy to provide you with a copy of your session notes and a receipt to submit to your insurance company.  I do not bill insurance at this time.

What is a typical massage process?

Process of massage

In a typical massage session, one can expect the following:

To complete a health intake form: this allows the therapist to know upfront if there are any modalities or techniques that should not be used and any conditions that may require modification to the massage.  Depending on the massage, the practitioner will ask you to either undress or lay on the table fully clothed.  The practitioner will always work with what you are comfortable with.  If you don't want to undress, you don't have to.  Some modalities do work better undressed, but your comfort is always the main priority.  You will be covered with a sheet or fully clothed (in cases of Thai, Craniosacral, Reiki or Shiatsu) throughout the entire massage.

When shouldn't I get a massage and why?

Do not get a massage if experiencing these conditions:

Fever, communicable disease, Rash/skin condition of unknown origin, less than 6 weeks post surgery (excluding tummy tucks/BBLs), unmanaged/uncontrolled chronic medical conditions, poison ivy, if prohibited by medical team, and intoxication.

These conditions may require modification, but massage is likely okay:

Broken bones (avoiding the area of injury), cuts, bruises, localized injuries, pregnancy (excluding the 1st trimester), cancer, chronic medical conditions approved by a doctor, medications.

The above is not an extensive list.  Please consult your doctor and massage therapist if you have questions or concerns about receiving massage.

It is important to notify your therapist of any conditions in which a session may need to be rescheduled or modified for the safety of the therapist and client.
